Isle Of Skye

Oh gosh, I should have written this nearly a year ago, but one thing or another got in the way.

So I ended up on Skye again, the last time was 2017. It was so busy back then that I didn’t get to see or photograph much.

Bigger plans this time starting with The Quiraing. The plan was to hopefully get a sunrise image. So I did a recce of the area in the evening before finding a place to camp overnight.

The Quiraing is a series of landslips in the part of the Trotternish Ridge. It’s an amazing place with beautiful views all around.

Afternoon recce images

An early start hoping for a decent sunrise full of colour. Yeppie a sunrise and yes some colour, it could have been better.

The next stop was The Old Man Storr an iconic landmark. It’s the highest point of the Trotternish Ridge. While driving alone on the A855 you will see the pinnacles towering in the distance. The tallest is the Old Man Storr.

I decided to walk up for a look and see if I could find some compositions for a sunrise tomorrow. It’s a bit of a walk-up but plenty to see on the way. Another amazing place with fantastic views all around.

The Old Man is just one of the pinnacles and sitting behind it is The Cathedral.

Looking across Loch Fada towards The Old Man Storr. The Cathedral and The Old Man Storr.

Up early the next day, I arrived at the car park and hiked up in the dark taking about an hour I was hoping for a glorious sunrise. As the sun came up I could see that there was no clouds so I opted for a sunstar image of the Cathedral. I scrambled up the rock face opposite and set up and waited. Slowly the sun rose and I aligned the camera for the shot.

The Cathedral at sunrise

Fairy Pools a must go to place. It’s a nice walk with lots to photograph along the way. Plenty of waterfalls and pools.

The Spur an Fheadain and the Black Cullins

Elgol is a lovely little fishing village on the edge of Loch Scavaig, and a backdrop of the Black Cullins

Unfortunately the tide wasn’t high enough to reach the iconic ball

Park up for the night, can you spot Max
