Maasai Mara

England, Africa, Kenya, and then into the  Maasai Mara, a journey I never thought I would get to do. This for me is a trip of a lifetime, one on the bucket list. I’ve tasted the Mara. It’s now a drug, and I need more I’m going to go back.

I took the opportunity to go with David Lloyd a wildlife photographer and an expert on the Maasai Mara. I hoped with his help, and know-how, I would get the wildlife images that I have wanted. I was not disappointed.

My Maasai Mara safari lasted 8 days at the Entim Camp in luxury tents at the heart of the Maasai Mara. The site was excellent, all the staff was more than helpful. Henry and Edward our drivers were great, they did everything possible to get you in the right place and position to see the wildlife.  Kingfishers to Elephants, even on the first day I saw Leopard. Each day we had two drives one early in the morning setting off at 0600 hrs and the second at 1600 hrs

After the first two days, the weather changed, and down came the rain. It was the start of the rainy season in the  Mara. Unfortunately, that stopped us from crossing the river so no more Leopards but there was still plenty to photograph.

The lions were great to capture in the rain, and early one morning we found a lioness moving her cubs to safety from a small stream that was rising to where her cubs were. One by one she walked past us holding them delicately in her mouth. It was a special moment which I will not forget. I did hope to get some sunrise and sunsets but they didn’t appear to happen very much.

It was a very special experience and as I’ve said I need to return.
